The Main Goal of Green Concept

I sometimes discuse various useful topics in my facebook profile. It’s interesting to talk this issue with the right people such as my friends (some of them are researchers) and my lecturer in environment engineering. A few days ago, my lecturer said that the main goal of green concept is “pollution prevention” rather than “waste treatment”
Well, I’m surprised with this info. Because before knowing this main goal, I thought that green concept’s goal was only about creating a green living, whatever it is. After reading his explanation, it’s reasonable now. As you know, waste treatment is done in order to prevent the pollution, isn’t it? So it becomes a second mission from green concept.
Based on this main goal, “pollution prevention”, our duty now as a human being is to decrease a usage of goods or life style that will cause more pollution. For example, in our house (for small scale example), it’s better not to use AC rather than use AC even an eco-friendly one. This concept invites and educates people to rack brains such as to open the house window frequently instead of pressing the AC’s remote or control the temperature for more comfort number (like 25 C degree on the remote). What do you think?

Jelutong Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is one of the most sophisticated STP in Malaysia which has a luxurious design capacity of 1,2 million population equivalent. Due to restriction on land availability, this STP has adopted a compact state-of-the-art Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) activated sludge technology with dewatering system and anaerobic sludge digester.
The waste treatment facility is designed to generate effluent quality that is less than 20 mg/l BOD, 50 mg/l TTS and 10 mg/l of total ammonia nitrogen plus nitrate nitrogen with a limit of 5 mg/l ammonia nitrogen. The end product of 25% dry solids is suitable for land disposal. The Plant is the second largest SBR type STP in the world and a model of the state of the art design with full plant automation and control. The plant is located in a mixed development next to the main Jelutong Expressway at the Southern side of Georgetown.
