LG W2453V-PF 24-Inch Class Widescreen LCD Monitor (Gloss Black) Reviews

First off, I must say that this monitor is huge (16″10) yet it lightweight. The piano black finish that goes around the screen does have a habit of capturing fingerprints, but once I set it down, and cleaned it off, it looks stunning. The stand is nice and sturdy; yes the monitor will wabble if you shake the desk, but definately not much. It doesn’t shake as much as my 19″ Viewsonic Monitor does. Sometimes when I walked by my Viewsonic monitor, I thought it was going to tip over. This one…never gave it a minutes thought. Sturdy and strong. I was amazed to come across this LCD monitor. A few places, I’ve seen it for over $[...]and others, a shade under $[...]. I was so happy to find this monitor for $[...].
I had this monitor for a little while and I am so happy I made this purchase. As stated earlier, I previously owned a 19″ LCD and I went with a 24″ LCD monitor to compliment my Sapphire overclocked 4890 video card. I went from 1280×1048 to 1920×1080 (with HDMI outlet).
LG’s always packs their products good and tight in the box. This was no exception. Setup was easy. The manual was on the disc that had the driver on it. The installation pamphlet that came with the box was really no help. Most computers now, if you uninstall your previous monitor driver, when you turn on your computer, it will list it as, plug and play monitor. So no big deal when I turned on my system and looked over the instruction manuel on the pdf file on the disc. I’ve read reviews for other products and their are people who don’t like the idea of putting the instruction manuals on pdf files; they WANT the written manuel in the box. That’s fine. I don’t mind however. I read the simple instructions that were on the disc, and it was a flawless install on my Windows Vista 64bit Home Premium system. Vista accepted the driver and it was digitally signed.
There was no digital cable in the box. My previous monitor had a DVI cable so I used it with this one. If you haven’t gone “digital” with your monitor then you won’t be surprised to see in the box, you are supplied a anolog plug. If you plan on going to digital, then you will be surprised because you’ll need to buy one as it doesn’t come with a DVI-D cable. I shake my head on this one but not a penalty since I already had a DVI cable. I also read the specs on LG’s website and went to other places and found out that it didn’t come with a DVI cable.
My games look amazing on this monitor. The Sims3 and FSX look great. The monitor is bright and the viewing angle is pretty good. I had to turn the brightness down slightly. It did take some time for me to get use to the resolution change to 1920×1080.
The touch controls are a nice touch as the craftmanship makes this monitor look very sleek. For a 24″ monitor, it wasn’t heavy at all. It’s acutally lighter and thinner than my 19″ Viewsonic LCD monitor.
—————————————-
Movies: I had a moment to try watcing movies on this monitor as last week (7/17/09) I had Verizon FIOS installed. Since it was to take a few hours, I took my playstation and hooked it up to the monitor. Again, games looked good (using the PLaystation), and I watched a movie. The movie using, the HDMI outlet on the monitor, looked fantastic.
——————————————-
All and all, I play a lot of games and do a lot of web surfing on it. This monitor is great. This monitor is strictly used as a gaming monitor but movies looked pretty good in HD (1080p). I got this monitor for under $[...] with free shipping (and no tax). Similar monitors are well over $[...] 24″, Energy Star 1920×1080, very thin…what’s not to like. The only downside is that it doesn’t come with a DVI plug, only a VGA cable. Still, I highly recommend this one.
* The Sims 3 looks gorgeous on this monitor *
*Simple Notes*
1- If you built your own computer, some (if not most) video card kits come with DVI plugs (not the cable). Sapphire provided one for me but I didn’t need it because my previous monitor had a DVI cable
2- Most product displays either online and in the store sometimes don’t mention this as Energy Star complient. IT IS.
3- The stand does wobble but there has to be some big time shaking.
4- The monitor is very sturdy in the stand
5- The monitor is long, make sure your desk or workstation is long enough (the length is 11″)

I’ve been lucky in my career to have great computer equipment. From workstations to PCs with 21″ hi-res monitors in the early 90s. So when it came time to upgrade a couple of months ago it was easy to decide on the processor and components but the most difficult choice was the monitor. I’m often on a computer for 18+ hour days. After living at several computer stores while comparing monitors I had finally made my decision. But, the store was out of the one that I had selected. A quick look and the LG stood out. Salesman told me I could bring it back if I didn’t like it. It was a lucky choice that I have not regretted, even if my pocket book did.
The monitor looks good, but then most monitors are glossy black and look very similar. I do like the sexy soft red smiling light. It is easy to touch the on off switch and the light is not bright enough to bother me. I have found some indicator lights are too bright.
The real proof of a monitor is how good the screen image is and I have yet to find one better. The 1920×1080 has a lot of real estate to view things on. You can easily view two pages on this monitor. I had looked at smaller monitors with fewer pixels, but decided that I wanted to stick with the 1920×1080 resolution or better. The one thing I did find is that the way I sit and view the monitor I tend to stare and lean forward because the screen is so clear that I can run pages reduced in size. And, with images I tend to concentrate on one area. The image is clear even when my nose is about to touch it.
Deciding that I needed more screen real estate I purchased a Samsung 2343BWX 23-Inch LCD Monitor”. I chose it because it had a 2048×1152 screen resolution and looked good in the store. The stand did not compare to the LG, but was adequate. It did come with a DVI cable though. After setting it up which was not great I found that I could not obtain the advertised resolution. Keeping it on 1920×1080 I started using the screen in dual mode. I set the Samsung as the primary to have access to the icons and Outlook. The first thing I noticed the icons looked blurred. Spanning a word document across both monitors the LG was clear while the Samsung was blurred. Images spanned similarly were clearly better on the LG. After a week of use I decided to force the Samsung to the higher resolution. Disconnecting the LG so as not to interfere with the Samsung and a day wasted I gave up and returned the Samsung as perhaps defective. I now have my second LG2453.
My only real complaint: Why on earth would LG ship a VGA cable instead of a DVI cable with a monitor in this price range or at least state it on the box. Had to spend in gas to go back to the store for a .00 cable. dah

Samsung Touch Of Color T220 22-inch LCD Monitor Reviews

It isn’t the design of this LCD that earns merit, although it is a rather timeless looking item and will look smart in any situation. It’s the feature set, and there is certainly far more function over form than meets the casual eye!
Pros:
- Can be set to auto detect the exact input source resolution and display the image without any stretching. This is great if you play games that might need 1280 x 1024 or 1680 x 1050. Your treasured vintage game collection will still look splendid!
- Has a great software tool that will set the correct color / contrast / brightness balance. Make sure you run MagicBright after installation – the image is stellar once you have this set.
- Low power consumption – do your bit for Gaia
- The memory resident tools do not task the CPU.
- Tack sharp display with almost non-existant light bleed at the edges
- Games look superb!
- No dead pixels
- Comfortable viewing size – I find larger displays somewhat taxing on the eyes
- Has a great tool that can divide your display into various logical units – a bit mike having multiple displays – very cool as this makes apps snap into the regions just like extra displays
- Amazing price – 2ms + 20,000:1 contrast ratio + Samsung quality + auto resolution detect + much more!
Cons:
- No height adjustment – but by no means a show-stopper when you bear in mind the spec.
- Tilt only tilts away, not towards you. The assumption is that you will be looking down at the screen up to horizontal, which is ergonomically incorrect. The user should have the option to view at 90 degrees or above to avoid neck strain. I resolved this by buying a sturdy stand so I can have the mid-screen point at eye level
- No frame color options – just translucent burgundy, which looks blackish most of the time in low light conditions.
- Software installation is confusing. It recommends that you download the latest software. When you click the link, it’s very unclear what you need to do. I couldn’t see a option for the T220, so I just installed what was on the disk and everything ran fine. You must run the software installer using Internet Explorer, otherwise you need to manually run the install exe from the CD.

The Samsung T-220 is a fantastic monitor, not only in design and curb-appeal but in performance. No matter what you use it for, the screen will be sharp and crystal clear for text, images, photos and background. I’m using the T-220 for a CCTV system with a DVR and the images from all 5 camera’s are perfectly stunning. If your wondering then why I gave the T-220 4 stars instead of 5? It’s because for some unknown reason Samsung decided not to make these T-220 monitor’s VESA compliant (no mounting holes in rear of monitor) wall mountable. When I contacted Samsung their tech-rep admitted the T-220 were their newest monitor addition and could not understand why the T-220′s were not designed to be wall mountable? This is the only flaw I could find, but it could be a major one if you want the monitor mounted on a wall. I had to return one monitor for this specific reason. If your not mounting your monitor to a wall, I would recommend the Samsung T220 to all, it’s just a great product.
