Winter is not a friendly season for plants because not all plants can survive in this season. It is very unfortunate if the colorful and eye catching plants, which have a positive impact on the environment, should simply freeze to death during the winter. For example: there is a plant which is definitely going to die after blooming, then it’s not right to be treated in the room when winter comes. On the other hand, there are plants which can be transitioned from the cold outdoors into a warmer room. The perennials are mostly ornamental plants. Among these, there are alternanthera which really needs short days of winter to induce the sequence of its bloom, or a hibiscus, clerodendrum, and pelargonium. All plants will distract you from winter to spring.

There are also rare plants which is like a jewel for its owner. Therefore, rare plants are also included in the category of plants that can be brought into the room during the winter. However, all plant treatment which are brought into the room, whether it is rare or not, it is important to remain constant and stable. If you are the type of persons who is ‘seasonal’, it is not necessary to maintain plants indoors because it means the same as killing the plant in front of your eyes, or let it be a semi-wilderness in one corner of your home.

So, before you decide to move the plant from outside to the room, consider to return the benefits to be gained, either for you or for your plants. The right amount of sunlight, air circulation, and drainage are important things that need to be taken into plant maintenance. If it is not taken earlier, you could lose your expensive rare plants in your own hands.

The basic rules you should follow are as follows: check pests before you bring the plant into the pot. If necessary, plants can be transferred to another pot. Then, consider also the pets you have which is not harmful for your plants, or vice versa, your plant is not harmful for your pet. You should know that there are toxic plants for animals.

You can also create a small forest at home to confirm that it is a special territory for plants, so other family members or even your pet understand it. Collecting seeds, cuttings, and lights for next season, or keeping the plants dormant in, a cool, dark, out-of-the-way where they will not compete for air and light, are other tasks you should prepare. The following plants can be grown outside in the winter: Lantana, Petunia, and Angelonia.
