While, we also do not want to pollute the earth which has had time to bear the ‘global warming’ as the worst problem throughout its history. Philips, a leading electronic manufacturer company has sought a unique idea to provide people a way out for the waste problem, especially for kitchen waste using Microbial Home system.
On an exhibition at the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, Philips design team demonstrated its Microbial Home system in reducing the adverse environmental impacts caused by humans. This work has a very good continuity in achieving waking environment, namely by involving lighting, human waste, healthy lifestyle, energy, cleaning, and food preservation. At first glance, we would see the lights, faucets, tables, and incorporated sink, but actually, there is still a cutting board and anything else that have function to process kitchen waste into energy.
The core of the Microbial System is a bio-digester home kitchen appliance, which consists of methane digesters that convert solid waste and vegetable trimmings into methane gas that is used to power a series of its functions. Here, all of functions have relationships each other. On Microbial Home system, the methane gas is derived from the composition of the bio-digester and then be transported to the cell wall of glass that form bio-light.
On the kitchen table, there is a food storage area specifically designed for fresh foods like fruits and vegetables. A compartment and the chamber walls are also available in various thickness and volume, and they are designed to keep various types of food at different optimal temperatures with a natural process. Besides, the kitchen table is adjoining with fresh food storage area and on top of the ceramic park to plant some vegetables group. It is a great idea, isn’t it?
Another unique feature that Microbial Home System has is the unconventional urban beehive which allows us to keep bees at home and harvest their honey. This hive consists of a flower pot outside, an entry passage, and a glass vessel containing an array of honeycomb frames inside.
When the plastic waste becomes a big problem at home, an up-waste cyclists of Microbial Home system allows families to take advantage of powerful enzymes that break it down and force decay fungi. Plastic is ground into small chips and mixed with a fungal in a glass canister, which is placed into the compartment of the system called ‘paternoster’. Each week, the mycelium is mixed with plastic ground, and it produces edible mushrooms.
The Microbial Home system provides a filtering system for squatting toilet through charcoal, sand and ceramic filters while channeling excreta into the methane digester. This will save water and result no waste.
