The Smallest Engine from Ford: 1 Liter EcoBoost

High-End Ford Fiesta

Ford will help the world to be more environment friendly in a unique way from the automotive world. Ford has announced that it will release a car with a 1.0-liter EcoBoost with 3 cylinders, an engine with the smallest capacity that is ever existed. The three-cylinder manifold exhaust, as one part with the cylinder head, reduces exhaust gas temperature which allows the engine to run on a wider rpm band with the optimum fuel-air ratio.

New packages in this Ford machine give relief in every detail of technology in it. For example, its split cooling system helps cylinder block to warm faster which can help saving the fuel during the most inefficient heating step, especially in cold weather. This is a form of fuel saving that can be made by Ford.

In addition, there are also direct injection, an offset crankshaft, variable camshaft timing and the turbocharger. This engine is also lighter, which should be good for performance, efficiency and responsive.

But until this post is published, there is no further information about the cars that will be exhibited at the Frankfurt auto show in Germany using this engine. It could be a Ford Fiesta or any other cars, we don’t know yet. The EcoBoost engine will be released in September at the auto show.

Little leaks that can be known is the description of Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president of Global Product Development, who said that the new engine will provide horsepower and torque output equal to or better than most normally aspirated 1.6-liter gasoline engine. Using the automaker’s own 1.6-L Duratec as a benchmark, it means about 120hp and 112 pound-feet of torque and better than 40 mpg on the highway.
